India Tourist Visa Guide: How to Apply

Most foreign tourists need a visa to enter India. The easiest way to get one is by applying for the India e-Visa (Electronic Travel Authorization) online before you travel.

Who can apply?

The e-Visa is available to citizens of over 160 countries, including the US, UK, EU, Australia, and Canada.

Types of Tourist e-Visas

1. 30-Day e-Visa: Best for short trips. Valid for 30 days from the date of arrival. Usually allows double entry.
2. 1-Year e-Visa: Valid for one year. Allows multiple entries. Usually used by business travelers or frequent tourists.
3. 5-Year e-Visa: Valid for five years. Allows multiple entries.

How to Apply (Step-by-Step)

1. Go to the official website: indianvisaonline.gov.in (Beware of third-party scam sites that charge excessive fees).
2. Fill out the application: You will need your passport details, a recent digital photo, and a scan of your passport bio page.
3. Pay the fee: Fees vary by nationality (usually between $25 and $100).
4. Wait for approval: It usually takes 3 to 5 business days.
5. Print your ETA: Once approved, you will receive an email with your Electronic Travel Authorization. Print it out and carry it with you.

Important: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival in India.
