Bangalore in a Weekend

Two days in the Garden City - gardens, palaces, and a sunrise on Nandi Hills.

Best time: October to February

Bangalore works well as a 2-day stop at the start or end of a longer Karnataka trip. The city has enough to fill a lazy weekend without being overwhelming. This plan mixes the essential city sights with one classic day trip.

What to Know

  • Uber and Ola are cheap and reliable here - you do not need to drive.
  • Traffic is famously bad. Plan to leave early for Nandi Hills on Day 2.
  • Weather is mild year-round, but October to February is the driest and most pleasant window.
  • The Bangalore Metro is expanding and useful for Cubbon Park, MG Road, and Lalbagh.

Day by Day

Day 1

City Day

Start the morning at Cubbon Park for a walk under old trees, then walk over to Lalbagh for the Glass House and the 3,000-million-year-old rock. Break for lunch near MG Road, then visit Bangalore Palace in the afternoon. End with the evening aarti at ISKCON and dinner at Commercial Street.

Day 2

Sunrise and Temples

Leave by 4:30 AM for Nandi Hills and catch the sunrise over the clouds. Back in the city by noon. After lunch, visit the Bull Temple and Bugle Rock Park in Basavanagudi. Finish the day at KR Market, ideally before sunset when the flower stalls are at their most photogenic.
